In the 90's a concept was being developed wherein pollution which was being treated after it was created, to be reduced at the source of creation. This thinking known as Cleaner Production / Waste Minimization reduces the need to install and operate often expensive EOP control facilities and saves input resources (raw material, energy, water) from being lost in the form of waste and emissions. CP is about being proactive.

Realizing the potential of CP in the state of Gujarat, GCPC was established in Aug 1998, with the technical support of National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), New Delhi and United Nations International Development Organization (UNIDO). GCPC is one of the four regional Cleaner Production Centers in India. GCPC is now a registered Society under Society and Trust Act.

GCPC has a team of experienced members, with their wisdom and young engineers, with their fresh ideas, to carry out projects. It imparts knowledge as well as expertise to tackle with various environmental issues to different industries. It promotes CP / CT through various services like Orientation Programmes, Assessments Projects, Training Programmes and Dissemination Programmes. GCPC also advices and helps industries in developing PDD and getting approval from DNA for CDM projects.
